About BTCNostr

BTCNostr is bitcoin meets social: a nostr client with a real in-browser bitcoin wallet, so value moves as easily as words. It's a tribute to BCHNostr, rebuilt for bitcoin on the nostr-client no-build component stack — every feature here is an independent, swappable repo.

Testnet-first: every mechanic is real — keys, signing, fee estimation, broadcast, mempool — but the coins are free and worth nothing. The default chain is bitcoin blake, the BLAKE2b fork of testnet4 followed by mempool.guide; Core's testnet4, testnet3 and mainnet are one click away in Settings.

Your npub is your wallet. A nostr pubkey is a BIP-340 x-only key — exactly what a taproot output wants. So every account already has a bitcoin address that anyone can derive and only its owner can spend. Nobody has to publish a tip address.

FAQ

Is the money real? The transactions are real: signed, broadcast and mined on a live chain. The coins are test coins with no market value. Switch to mainnet in Settings if you want the other kind — it's the same code.

Which chain am I on? Bitcoin blake by default — a BLAKE2b fork of testnet4 that split at block 150,308 and is followed by mempool.guide. The sidebar chip always names your current chain; Settings switches it. Each chain keeps its own balance.

Where is my key? In your browser's localStorage, scoped to your nostr account. Back it up from the wallet page. Pocket change only.

How do people tip me? They already can. Your address is derived from your npub, so the ₿ button on your posts works the moment you have an account — nothing to publish, nothing to configure.

Who runs this? Nobody — it's static files on GitHub Pages talking to public relays and public block explorers. Fork it: every part is AGPL.
